Nick Cannon wants everyone to know, it's never too late to get your degree. The rapper/actor/tv-host opened up to Elvis Duran and the Morning Show about going back to school as an adult to get his college diploma.
The 37-year-old father of three (Nick has 7-year-old twins, a girl and a boy, with his ex-wife Mariah Carey and a 1-year-old son with beauty pageant winner Brittany Bell) is currently enrolled as an undergrad at Howard University, attending classes on their Washington, DC campus during the week and traveling on this Wild'N Out Tour on the weekends.
"I always encouraged young people to go to school," Nick said about working with kids and practicing what he preaches. "I was like, 'I gotta put my efforts where my mouth is.'"
The criminology and strategic and legal management major went on to tell Elvis Duran that he doesn't want to just be another celebrity who voices their opinions. He wanted to educate himself on the issues he's passionate about, particularly the criminal justice system, so he could speak about them from an informed standpoint.
"I'm doing all this stuff so I can actually make change from within," Cannon said about some of the work he's doing within the prison system.
The former America's Got Talent host also joked with Elvis Duran about his past life as a radio host. "People don't know how hard this job actually is," Cannon said about living the morning radio life while working for Rollin’ with Nick Cannon on the now-defunct 92.3 NOW. "Because I do so many other things - movies, tv, music - those radio hours... it's four hours that you're on-air, but the prep and the after work, it was a lot." Cannon ultimately gave up his radio show in 2012 due to health concerns and the immediate need to cut back on his working hours.
