SZA Says Her Voice Is 'Permanently Injured'

SZA has revealed that she has permanently damaged her vocal chords after a string of since-deleted tweets on Tuesday night (May 29).

"My voice is permanently injured," the 27-year-old singer admitted after her performance at Madison Square Garden. "Tonight was the test. That settles that I jus[t] wanna be left alone, my priorities are f**ked up. They been f**ked up. I need space goodbye." Just last week, SZA's label Top Dawg Entertainment announced that the singer wouldn't perform during select dates on the "TDA Championship Tour" to avoid permanent damage to her voice. "Her vocal chords are swollen, and she [has] to rest her voice to prevent any permanent damage," the label wrote in a statement on Instagram. "We been monitoring her close[ly], and this is the reason she missed the Arizona and New Mexico dates. She'll see the doctor again in a few days."

After the letter was released, the R&B siren took to social media to share her own take on the setback. "I've been touring for 11 months," she admitted in a note on Instagram. "This didn't happen overnight. I've been troubleshooting for a while now, and usually steroids and pushing through help. They don't this time. I'm not sick; my voice just won't f**king work. If I don't pause now I'll be forced to pause permanently."

SZA's revelation comes just days before back-to-back shows in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Click here to see a full list of dates for the "TDE Championship Tour," which also features Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, SiR, Lance Skiiiwalker and more.
