So many people sent me this story over the weekend!
Willie Fairley is the owner of Willie Ray’s Q Shack in Iowa, which is a seriously affected area right now. A devastating storm tore through last week, damaging a lot of homes in the Iowa/Illinois area and leaving millions of others without power.
Now, I think we can all agree it’s NOT Willie’s responsibility to take care of his town. HOWEVER, he’s decided to help out, simply because he has the ability.
For the past several days, he has been providing about 400 hot meals daily, absolutely free of charge to his struggling neighbors. And not cheap meals, real grilled ribs, chicken, and burgers, just like he offers on his menu.
He said it’s simply because if it was he that had nothing, he would want someone to at least be able to provide something to help him out.
In this time the restaurant has been offered 15 catering jobs, and has declined all of them because in his words, “money will come but people are in need right now.”
Willie is happily accepting donations from members of his community whom are able, in order to keep feeding those in need, and has reminded me that sometimes we are responsible not just because we are directly connected to someone, but just because we can.
What a good guy!
