IHeartRadio, Z100 New York and Elvis Duran have teamed up with the Empire State Building to create a new music-to-light show every night to honor the everyday heroes risking their lives to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Each night, Elvis Duran and Z100 will identify and salute the heroes on the front line of this crisis; Z100 will then play the inspiring New York anthem from Alicia Keys, “New York State of Mind, " as the Empire State Building begins its dramatic light show to Keys’ song.
As of April 2, and every night throughout the ongoing pandemic, the Empire State Building will shine in a dynamic heartbeat to show solidarity and support to the over 1 million people in 180 countries affected by COVID-19.
Additionally, at the top of every hour, the Building will sparkle in the colors of first responders to pay respect to the heroic emergency workers on the front line of the fight. The colors include yellow, blue, silver, red, white, green, and grey for the dispatchers, law enforcement, correctional officers, firefighters, paramedics, and military members of our communities who have put their lives on the line on behalf of all of us.
Following the light show will be five minutes of darkness in memory of those who have lost their lives in the global pandemic.
Everyone around the world is invited to join in on the conversation each night by posting a video of themselves to their social media pages with the hashtag #EmpireStateBuilding and #iHeartNewYork tagging both the Empire State Building and iHeartRadio to share how we are all still able to connect with each other.
“The Empire State Building has always served as an international symbol of hope, of challenges overcome, and of New York City itself,” said Anthony E. Malkin, Chairman and CEO, ESRT. “With iHeartRadio, the radio network of America, she provides comfort and inspiration to New Yorkers, America, and the world.”
The music-to-light show will be streamed on Z100's YouTube page every night at 9PM ET. You can catch the first night of the show above!
