Incredible 80-Year-Old Video Shows Exactly How NYC Has Changed

NewYorker.com just released a split screen video showing specific areas in NYC from 80-years-ago vs. today and the changes are FASCINATING but subtle! 

The black and white footage on the left was taken in the 1930s and shows a less busy, less truck filled, slightly more charming New York City. One positive change we noticed is that Central Park has more green space and is not as chopped up with roads as it was in the 30s.

The city also has way more pedestrians crossings now than it did back then. People used to just randomly cross the street at haphazard. 

Our favorites parts of the video show all the ways Manhattan has stayed THE SAME: architecture, the Empire State building, bridges, iconic statues, and more!
