INTERVIEW: The Chainsmokers Chat About Their Debut Album 'Memories... Do Not Open'

Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall of The Chainsmokers stopped by to celebrate the release of their debut album, Memories... Do Not Open.

The electronic dance duo, who first broke through the music scene with their 2014 single "Selfie," are out with their first studio album since their 2016 sophomore EP, Collage

Earlier this year they brought home the 'Best Dance Recording' Grammy award for their single "Don't Let Me Down" featuring Daya. They were also nominated for the 'Best New Artist' and 'Best Pop Duo/Group Performance' Grammys.

Memories... Do Not Open features guest appearances from Coldplay, Florida Georgia Line, Emily Warren, and Jhene Aiko. Two singles from the album have already charted on Billboard's Hot 100 chart with "Paris" peaking at #6 and "Something Just Like This" at #3.

Chris Martin joined the group on-stage this year at our iHeartRadio Music Awards for an epic medley performance of "Paris" and "Something Just Like This." It was the first US television performance of "Something Just Like This," their collaboration with Coldplay. Fittingly, Chris Martin started a giant mosh pit to commemorate the occasion.

Originally, the group was not going to release a full album but decided they had a story to tell. On April 6th they took to their Facebook page to share some thoughts with fans on the eve of their album debut:

"The box of Memories...Do Not Open symbolizes the message of our album. We all have childhood bedrooms, filled with objects that illustrate special moments. Eventually, that room and its objects are boxed up as we grow up and move out but a few of the very important items remain in a box that is saved...memories."

You can catch them on April 8th with Louis C.K. as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live. In a video promo for the episode, Louis tries to convince the guys that he's a big fan of their music before Alex cuts him off with "Louis, you're not a fan of ours" and the comedian admittedly agrees with, "No, no I'm not... but you don't need me!"

The Chainsmokers will be on the road for most of the spring and summer, performing in Vegas, Milan, Belfast, Boston, New York, Philadephia, Montreal, New Orleans and more, as well as locations in Portugal, Sweden and Norway. For ticket details, head to thechainsmokers.com.
