Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum may have called off their engagement, but the Batman actress has no qualms about still singing her ex's praise.

While speaking to The Batman director Matt Reeves as part of Variety's "Directors on Directors" series, Kravitz explained how she simply knew she needed to cast Tatum in her directorial debut Blink Twice, revealing that she wanted to "weaponize his charisma" and charm for his role in the psychological thriller, per People.

"Channing was the first person I thought of for Slater King, and I don't know where that came from," she said, adding, "I knew that the character needed to be somebody who we think we trust, especially because you don't believe Naomi [Ackie, who played Frida in the film] is getting on that plane if it's somebody who is immediately insidious."

Kravitz said that Tatum fit the bill as audiences had not seem him in a role like that before, rather in films like Magic Mike, 21 Jump Street and She's the Man.

The High Fidelity star previously told People how "awesome" it was to see Tatum take on a villainous role.

"He was doing such a good job, and as an actor, I'm like, 'This is delicious stuff that he's never gotten a chance to do,'" she said. "And also, he's doing this part because he's an ally. He wants to tell this story."

Kravitz and Tatum called off their engagement and ended their relationship in October, three years after sparking a romance on the set of Blink Twice. A source later revealed that the split was due to both of their "demanding schedules" and that their busy careers were a "big part" of their decision to go their separate ways.
