It's been a rough week for Alec Baldwin. On Thursday, the 64-year-old actor was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter for the 2021 shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the movie Rust. Then, his wife, Boston-born Hilaria, was criticized for using a Spanish accent while asking photographers to leave her kids alone following the charges. Now, Alec is getting slammed over his first Instagram post since news of the charges broke.
Alec shared a photo of Hilaria and their son, whose hands were on his mother's shoulders as she sat in a living room. Alec captioned the pic, "The old let me give you a back rub ploy." The comment turned off a lot of his followers.
One wrote, "Imagine being indicted for involuntary manslaughter and the first post you make after the announcement includes a picture of your attention-seeking wife, posed with your young son, and captioned with a sexually suggestive innuendo," while another stated, "Does anyone else think this is creepy af with the caption? Pic is sweet. Caption makes it weird," and someone else said, "Dude you need consult your team before you post man this does not help your case."
While some fans defended the actor, the majority of comments were things like, "Sexualizing children is always so weird but your own child? Yikes," and how the "back rub ploy is a joke between grownups not mother/son." One person just flat-out asked the father-of-eight to stop being "problematic" and to not post anything else.
Alec must've gotten wind of the backlash because he wound up changing the caption to "The old let me give you a back rub ploy. Potato chips to follow." He commented about that decision, writing, "I adjusted the text. I guess because…you know…there is so much of that Reddit trash out there."
