Camila Cabello is set to star in a jukebox musical adaptation of Cinderella this fall. Not only was being on a movie set for the first time amid a global pandemic a strange experience for the pop star, but Cabello admits she also had to overcome some serious nerves when meeting her co-star Billy Porter.

“I was so intimidated by [Billy] because I was like, ‘You’re so talented, you have such a big soul, a big energy about you,” Cabello gushed to Bustle for her recent digital cover story.

Despite being Intimidated by the Pose star, Cabello was able to overcome those feelings and forge a close bond with the actor. “I told him that. And he was so vulnerable, so sweet, and just a very real person," she shared. "By the end of it, we really connected. He was like, ‘I want to be your [Fab G] in real life.’”

During that same interview, the 24-year-old singer opened up about the challenges created by her busy lifestyle. Due to the frequent travel and long workdays that come with the pop star life, Cabello has found it hard to create lasting friendships. “I’ve been [working] since I was 15. I’ve been traveling so much, and it’s been really hard for me to water the soil for friendships,” she said. “It’s hard for me to get close to people."

Cabello considers her mom, Sinuhe Estrabao, her closest confidante. “[My mom and I] would always, after work, go to dinner. Go get sushi together, go for a walk,” Cabello recalls of some of her busiest, most hectic stretches. “It was always me and my mom. Probably to the extreme. Because I never had any friends.”

The 'Havana' singer has, of course, found another close confidante in her boyfriend of two years, Shawn Mendes. “I probably have a nurturing attitude because I also like being nurtured. I’m lucky that my partner is the same way,” Cabello told the outlet of their relationship. “There’s a lot of sweetness and tenderness. I think we’re both sensitive. I’m really lucky to be able to surround myself with tenderness; it’s really important to me.”
