The Weeknd Promises PG-Rated Super Bowl Halftime Show: 'I'll Try My Best'

We're days away from The Weeknd's upcoming Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show and the chart-topper is promising a PG-rated musical set.

On Thursday (February 4), the Canadian superstar followed in the steps of Super Bowl performers of the past by heading to the annual press conference. During the 10-minute event, the star was asked how much he’ll incorporate the graphic content of his music into his performance and he had quite the reassuring answer, at least for the parents watching alongside their children. "For sure, I definitely want to be respectful to the viewers at home," he told reporters on Zoom.

Abel went on to admit that the entertainment amid the NFL showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will follow the concept and narrative of his chart-topping LP, After Hours, but the singer said that he "definitely will keep it PG for the families." "I'll try my best," he added.

Elsewhere during the conference, Abel cited Diana Ross' Super Bowl set from 1996 as his favorite among the legacy of NFL sets. "I don't know what technically is the greatest, but my favorite is Diana Ross from 1996, have you seen that one? She's just so glamorous and the show just makes me smile," he gushed. "And she has a great exit with the helicopter — it lands in the middle of the field, she grabs onto it and flies off into the clouds, it’s like… I wish I could have done that, I wish I’d thought of it. Although I don’t think I have enough money to do it!"
