Hunger Games fans—rejoice! Lionsgate is currently in the pre-production stages on another film set in Panem. While we'd all love to catch up with Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. This film will be centered around the 10th Hunger Games and follow a mjuch younger version of a villainous character from the original trilogy. Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming Hunger Games film.
"The prequel movie will focus on Coriolanus Snow at age 18, years before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem," The Hollywood Reporter revealed. "Young Coriolanus is handsome and charming, and though the Snow family has fallen on hard times, he sees a chance for a change in his fortunes when he is chosen to be a mentor for the Tenth Hunger Games… only to have his elation dashed when he is assigned to mentor the girl tribute from impoverished District 12."
Joe Drake, chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, also shared his excitement about the upcoming film, which is based on author Suzanne Collin's prequel novel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. "Suzanne’s new book has been worth the wait. It offers everything fans could hope for and expect fromThe Hunger Games while also breaking new ground and introducing an entirely new canvas of characters," Drake said in a statement.
Francis Lawrence, who directed three of the four Hunger Games films, will pick up the mantle once again for the prequel film. Collins will serve as an executive producer on the project, as well write the film's treatment, while Michael Arndt will write the script.
The Ballad of Songbirds And Snakes will be available for purchase on May 19, however, there's no set date yet for the film adaptation's release. Are you excited for a new Hunger Games movie?
