Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have pledged to help feed those in need during the coronavirus pandemic.
As more COVID-19 cases in the United States continue to rise, the A-list couple took to social media on Monday (March 16) to announce they are donating $1 million to Feeding America and Food Banks Canada, two organizations that assist in providing food for older adults and low-income families.
In a statement on her Instagram account, the Gossip Girl alum urged, in addition to their $1 million contributions, that those able to donate do the same. “Though we must be distancing ourselves to protect those who don’t have the opportunity to self quarantine, we can stay connected,” reads Lively’s message in the post. “Remember the love that can travel through all this. Communities are stepping up -- shopping for the elderly, making lunches for children. We can all do something for one another, even if that's simply staying home.”
“Take care of your bodies and hearts. Leave room for joy. Call someone who’s isolated and might need connection,” the Deadpool star added in a statement of his own, jokingly urging Twitter followers to call Hugh Jackman, listing his phone number as “1-555-[sad face emoji]-Hugh.”
Lively and Reynolds are the latest stars to put their support behind Feeding America amid the coronavirus outbreak, following in the footsteps of stars like Ben Affleck, Vanessa Hudgens, Natalie Portman, and others. In the wake of the crisis, many other celebrities are encouraging people to practice social distancing.
Per the latest reports, the confirmed cases of coronavirus have risen to 4,500, and at least 88 people have died from the virus in the United States.
