Amazon Prime has reportedly paid a whopping $25 million to secure the rights to a new Rihanna documentary, as per The Hollywood Reporter.
The film, which was initially announced in 2015, has been in the works for several years and was directed by Peter Berg, the man in charge of her 2012 film, Battleship. "With unparalleled access into the singer’s life and more than 1,200 hours of footage," the outlet reported. "The doc offers private insights into Rihanna’s personality, sense of humor, work ethic, family and love."
Back in 2017, Berg admitted that hopping around Europe with the star and a batch of other females was "a fun change of pace" for the filmmaker. "She was going to do a concert on Bastille Day," he said of his time with the singer. "And that truck driver who killed all those people plowed through them right in front of our hotel. So even in me trying to do something light, I had a very, very front-row seat to something that horrific."
In a follow-up interview with Slash Film, Berg provided some more insight into why he believes examining the life of the self-described "bad gal" was noteworthy. "I think she’s an extraordinary young woman and it really is kind of a pretty comprehensive profile of what goes into making her this talent that she is," he said. "The work ethic, the talent, luck, the hustle, the vision."
On the music front, it looks like we might be waiting longer for her highly-anticipated comeback album. As per a recent tweet from a fan, the singer has supposedly pushed her new collection to 2020, despite telling fans that she wanted to drop the LP this year.
