Miley Cyrus Gives Subtle Nod To Liam Hemsworth In New 'Slide Away' Video

Miley Cyrus has released the video for her latest song, "Slide Away," on Friday (September 6).

As many fans know, Cyrus released "Slide Away" a few days after it was confirmed that she and Liam Hemsworth separated. While never completely confirmed if the breakup song was inspired by her own split (but lbr, of course it was!), there are many references in the track that allude to her time with Hemsworth.

Much like the lyrics, the video also has a couple nods to her ex-husband including one shot showing a 10 of hearts playing card at the bottom of a pool signifying the end of Cyrus and Hemsworth's 10-year relationship.

The 26-year-old singer can be seen dealing with the aftermath of party throughout the video; which seems like a dark followup to the video for her party anthem "We Can't Stop." In a lengthy Instagram post from August the singer mirrors this comparison by writing, "I am simply in a different place from where I was when I was younger."

The visuals in the video mirror the song's lyrics: "I want my house in the hills/Don’t want the whiskey and pills" as the singer is seen walking through the house in a gold mini-dress while everyone around her is partying hard. Meanwhile, she shows her more emotional and vulnerable side by being a wallflower and floating in the pool (which, of course, is littered with alcohol bottles and cups).

Cyrus debuted her first live performance of the song at the 2019 MTV VMAs and it was spectacular.
