Actor Sam Humphrey, who starred alongside Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron in the musical film The Greatest Showman, is fighting for his life after experiencing serious health complications. The 24-year-old New Zealand native suffers from Crohn's Disease and must undergo a risky surgery to help remedy the complications he's been experiencing.
“He is currently under the care of some of the best doctors in the world at Cedars Sinai and is undergoing high-risk corrective surgery,” a statement provided to People explained. “His family and friends are with him and they ask for privacy while Sam is treated and recovers. They welcome everyone’s prayers and support at this time.”
The actor's Crohn's disease is "exasperated" by his "skeletal dysplasia and size,” his rep revealed. Skeletal Dysplasia is the medical term for what's commonly known as dwarfism, according to Healthline. Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory disease of the intestines that can cause ulcers, bowel obstruction, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. In addition to Crohn's Disease and Skeletal Dysplasia, Humphrey was also born with acrodysplaia, also known as Apert Syndrome. This congenital condition causes malformations of parts of the body, including the skull, face, and limbs.
Let's all keep Sam Humphrey in our thoughts as he undergoes surgery and the recovery process.
