Vanilla Ice is doing just fine after being stuck on an Emirates plane that was quarantined on the John F. Kennedy runway after multiple passengers reported feeling ill.
“I didn’t think it was that big of a deal,” the "Ice Ice Baby" rapper told The Blast of his experience on Wednesday (September 5). “During the flight there was a situation, they told us we would be in the middle of the runway after a 15-hour flight. They said there are some passengers that are ill so we are going to go out on the runway and hang out."
“They sealed off the two floors and eventually removed first class at a separate entrance," The Vanilla Ice Project star said. Adding, he is feeling okay, just extremely tired after the long flight.
On Wednesday morning, Vanilla tweeted about being on the plane, which had 500 passengers on board. "So I just landed from Dubai and now there is like tons of ambulances and fire trucks and police all over the place," he wrote. "This is crazy. Apparently [sic] there is [sic] over 100 people sick on the bottom floor, so happy I’m up top, it’s a double-decker plane 380."
While initial reports claimed that at least 100 passengers, who had arrived in New York City from Dubai, were sick, that number was refuted by the airline. “About 10 passengers on board flight EK203 from Dubai to New York were taken ill,” a representative for Emirates told People in a statement.
Following the flight's landing, Vanilla shared a Facebook video of the scene outside the plane. In the 20-second video, which was taken out of his airplane seat window, you see dozens of emergency responders, including police officers, firefighters, and EMTs.
