Selena Gomez Hits Back At Her 'Elle' Cover Story: Read Her Instagram Post

Just hours after her Elle cover story was released, Selena Gomez wanted to make it known that she was not happy with the direction of the piece, so she took to Instagram to clear her head with a lengthy note.

Writing to her 142.1 million followers, the 26-year-old kicked off the post by admitting that speaking from her heart to someone for over an hour can be hard for her. "The older I get the more I want my voice to be mine. This is all apart of my work within an industry that’s been around longer than all of us have been," she explained. "The purpose of my interview was three fold. My work with A21, my new collection with Coach, and some new music. As I'm aware there will always be interests in one’s personal life because that’s the pace of our ‘social’ generation."

As the letter continued, it appeared as if Gomez wasn't entirely comfortable with talk about her religious beliefs, particularly church, which is something she described as "far more personal." She also wasn't happy with the reveal of lyrics from her new album. While it seems Gomez wanted the attention to mostly sit with her volunteer work with anti-human-trafficking organization A21, the three mentions of Hillsong Church is what seemingly did it in for the singer/actress.

"There’s always agenda seeking information on such a subject and I understand why. Rarely do I mention church (and I didn’t) but I’ll always feel comfortable talking about my values and beliefs. I respect that from everyone and anyone," she continued. "I understand that reporters are working to grab the attention of a reader, however I will always work to ensure that what is public represents my truth. I’m a bit bummed but rarely surprised," adding, "I’ll post some of MY photos from the collection and work with A21. My heart. And maybe edit my actual lyrics as you will all hear it soon."
