As special guests on The Tonight Show, Miley Cyrus teamed up with Adam Sandler for a somber performance of Dido's 2013 single, "No Freedom," in honor of the victims of the Las Vegas' Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting on Sunday night (October 1).
"This morning we woke up to the news of another senseless shooting — this time in Las Vegas," Jimmy Fallon said during the performance introduction. "In the face of tragedies and acts of terror, we need to remember that good still exists in this world. We're here to entertain you tonight and that’s what we’re going to do."
In a simple black ensemble, Cyrus crooned the mid-tempo cut to gorgeous effects as Sandler played guitar next to her and chimed in for the chorus and final outro. As part of "Miley Week," which will see the pop star appear on the broadcast for a total of five days, the star kicked things off on a high note and later reminded viewers that she performed "No Freedom" previously during her "Backyard Sessions" for the Happy Hippie Foundation.
"There is no love without freedom, and I think about that when these tragic events happen," she explained. "What is music if we can’t go see our favorite artists perform because we’re scared of violence or we’re scared of losing someone that we love…. We're supposed to be the land of the free but we can’t have freedom if we’re constantly living in fear."
