3 Signs It’s Time to Leave Your Crappy, Soul-Sucking Job

DanMasonGroupCoaching.com

It was supposed to be my “dream job.”

In 2014, I landed the biggest gig of my 18-year corporate career. I had a fancy title that sounded important, a nice corner office, and a cushy, 6-figure salary to match. On paper, life looked great.

But life isn’t lived on paper.

The truth is, I also felt like a paid liar. It became apparent in the first 3 months of the job that the company wasn’t a hotbed of freedom and innovation like they promised. In fact, it was the lamest, most stagnant place I had ever worked. But my job was to try to wave the company flag each day… and I was miserable.

My head looked at my bank account and told me I was successful, but my heart knew I was tired, bored, trapped, and unfulfilled.

But how do you really know it’s time to quit a soul-sucking corporate job?

After walking away in 2015 to start my own coaching business and helping hundreds of clients around the globe do the same over the last 3 years, here are the 3 biggest signs to know it’s time to GTFO.

#1- You’re asking yourself if it’s time to leave.

If you clicked this link and are still reading this article, it’s time to make a change. Happy, engaged employees who love their job don’t ask the question in the first place. You would be amazed how many people tell me they are waiting for a “sign” from the Universe that they should quit. The danger in that thinking is some people will waste years (or a lifetime) until they get fired or laid off before they start to plan their next right move. That’s a stressful path to take.

So if you’re looking for a sign that it’s time to leave your crappy job, I made one especially for you. Here it is. Now let’s plan your second act!

#2- Your job is affecting your health.

It’s amazing how many people come to me in a perpetual state of stress and anxiety. Many people I talk to get the flu twice a year, struggle with weight gain, or find themselves on medication for any number of ailments.

This is your body trying to get your attention

Your ego’s job is to keep you stuck and playing small. It will try to convince you that your job isn’t so bad and you just need a vacation/promotion/pay raise to make everything better.

But your body never lies. I learned this first hand.

At age 38, I was struggling with high blood pressure and got wiped out with shingles, which typically only affects senior citizens. When I questioned my doctor how it happened, he pointed to my stress levels. That was the moment I hired my first life coach and made discovering my purpose my #1 priority.

One more thing to consider is your family and loved ones. Even if you aren’t having extreme physical symptoms, ask yourself what your energy level is like? Are you too tired at the end of the day to be present with the people you love? Do you get to see friends on the weekends or do you hibernate and sleep?

Staying in a crappy job doesn’t just affect you. It also affects the people you love.

#3- You feel like you are meant to do something greater.

You might not even know what it is, but there is an intuitive voice telling you that you could make an impact in the world and use your skills to help other people.

What’s sad is how many people feel this, but are afraid to say it out loud. We are afraid we will look cocky or egotistical if we truly step into our power and own our unique gifts. I’m here to tell you nothing could be further from the truth.

I recently heard Marianne Williamson talk about how we have the arrogance and humility upside down. Her point is that you didn’t create your potential… your higher power did. And the Universe doesn’t create junk. The only way it could be true that you don’t have a gift to give the world is if you created yourself… and according to Marianne, that’s an egotistical statement.

So from now on, let’s you and I agree that you listen to your intuition and doubt your doubt
