Heath Ledger Documentary Trailer Is Heartbreaking

"I Am Heath Ledger" premieres May 17th on Spike.

On what would have been Heath Ledger's 38th birthday, Spike TV released the trailer for its upcoming documentary about the actor.

The film gives a behind the scenes look at the Oscar-winning actor's hugely successful career. Interviews from "Brokeback Mountain" director Ang Lee and his sister Kate provide a candid look into Heath's personal life.

His sister describes him as humble despite all the fame. She knew that he would be nominated for his role as The Joker in The Dark Knight, but he never let it go to his head.

Despite being known for his roles in films like 10 Things I Hate About You and A Knight's Tale, the documentary shows a side of Heath not seen on screen. A friend reveals that his goal was always to be a director and acting was just a way to get there.

The special will feature footage captured by Heath himself.

Heath was 28-years-old when he was found dead due to a prescription drug overdose at his Manhattan, apartment in January 2008. He left behind daughter Matilda, then two, with ex-girlfriend, actress Michelle Williams.

The documentary will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 23rd.
