Demi Lovato's Sister Offers Update On The Pop Star: 'It's Been A Lot'

Demi Lovato's road to recovery after experiencing a near-fatal overdose in July is going well, as per her little sister, Madison De La Garza.

In a new interview to promote her short film, Subject 16, Lovato's sister told "Millennial Hollywood" host Dakota T. Jones that the singer is "doing really well" in rehab. "She's working really hard on her sobriety and we're all so incredibly proud of her. It's been crazy for our family. It's been a lot," she explained. "We've been through a lot together, and every single time—I mean if you read my mom's book, you would know—every time we go through something, we always come out on the other side a hundred times stronger than before. So, we've just been so thankful for everything—for the little things."

Madison went on to explain that she is looking forward to doing so many things with Demi once she has completed her treatment. "It sounds so small, but [I want to] go to Menchie's," the 16-year-old star said. "Honestly, I'm more of a Pinkberry person, but she likes Menchie's, and so we usually go there."

Lovato's mother, Dianna De La Garza, previously opened up about her daughter's overdose in a recent interview with Newsmax TV, recounting the morning that she learned of the family emergency. "It's still a really difficult thing to talk about. I literally start to shake a little bit when I start to remember what happened that day," the 56-year-old mother admitted in the discussion, which was conducted with the star's blessing, before recounting the phone call she received from the singer's then assistant.

"I answered the phone and Kelsey was rambling like she had obviously been through something terrible, and she said, 'I need to tell you what’s going on … you’re going to see a report come out.' I stopped her and said, 'Kelsey, just tell me what's going on.' The next words that came out of her mouth were words … that are so difficult to hear as a parent," she recalled. "She said Demi overdosed. So I was in shock, I didn’t know what to say. It was something I never, ever expected to hear as a parent about any of my kids. … I said, 'Is she OK?' And she stopped for a second and she said, 'She's conscious, but she's not talking.' I knew at that point that we were in trouble."
