Alessia Cara Shares What She Does To Deal With Her Insomnia

Singer, artist and now dog mom, Alessia Cara joins Elvis Duran and the Morning Show to talk about her two newly released songs and performing at Global Citizen Festival.

From her parents house in Canada, Alessia zoomed into the morning show to talk about the new release of her songs 'Sweet Dream' and 'Shapeshifter.' "I started writing this song where I was awake the whole time," Alessia says about the song 'Sweet Dream,' which was written to voice how she lives with insomnia. When it comes to trying to get a good night's sleep, Alessia says she needs to have a 'combination' of things. She'll do a hot shower, "light a candle, sometimes I take melatonin."

Alessia continues, "I didn’t know how to talk about it but there’s also a sense of shame. We’re shamed out of thinking about it." Alessia says we should treat our mental health and anxiety like we do our physical health. "Why would you neglect your mind?"

Alessia also talks about her song 'Shapeshifter,' saying it "represents where I've ended up lyrically." She continues, "It feels accepting of the situation." Alessia also talks about how excited she is to be a part of Global Citizen Festival this year. She reveals she didn't even know who was on the lineup until the announcement. "I'm such a fan of these people," she says after Elvis reads off names like Shawn Mendes, The Weeknd and Ed Sheeran.
