Is Rihanna About To Drop New Music?

The Rihanna Navy has all but imploded with excitement after Rihanna appeared to tease new music on Friday (November 9).

After months and months of fans asking, "when are we getting new music," RiRi seemed to allude that it's coming sooner rather than later when she shared a video on Instagram Story of her in the studio. Now, the video left quite a lot to be desired, it was on mute so you can't hear her music, but she was bopping (dancing) and singing to it so that has to mean whatever's coming must be a smash! (Right?) And at the very least, the video proves she's back in the studio. So, there's that.

Back in September, Rihanna admitted that new music is "coming." The "Wild Thoughts" singer —who has launched a makeup empire and lingerie line since the release of her last full-length project, Anti, more than two years ago — let it be known that while she's been booked and busy building her empire, she hasn't forgotten about her first love, music. “I know, I know sis. I'm doing music,” she replied to a fan's Instagram comment that asked about the status of her music career. “Simultaneously doing lingerie, makeup, film, amongst a couple other things that I enjoy. When the music is ready, you won't have to ask for it. But it's coming. Just not today sis. I’m hype too tho, it can't come soon enough for me. #Navy4Life.”

Rihanna is reportedly working on two albums — one dancehall and one pop. In July, Rolling Stone revealed that Rihanna is "exploring her Caribbean roots," and working with some of the biggest names in dancehall and reggae to bring her fans an unforgettable 10-track album.

“[Rihanna’s team] have, no lie, 500 records for this project [from] different producers and writers,” an anonymous dancehall producer told the mag. “They’re only choosing 10 records. They’ve been having writing camps and trying to keep them quiet for almost a year and a half now. I’ve been flying to Miami, flying to L.A., cutting records nonstop for this project.”

While details about the project are under lock and key, a second source told RS, “Every artist, every producer, every songwriter in Jamaica or of Jamaican descent has been working on [Rihanna’s album] and has little snippets of publishing or production credits on it."
